Oak Park Oakville, Ontario
OakPark is an award-winning 200-acre (80 hectares) community (Urban Design and Architectural Design Awards) in north Oakville offering innovative housing designed along the principles of "new urbanism". Originally part of a larger 400-acre (160 hectares) Metrontario development, OakPark is designated to become the new town centre of all of north Oakville. The homes in OakPark are being built by Tribute Communities, one of the finest builders in the Greater Toronto Area.
Upon completion, the community is planned to include a 27-acre (11 hectares) park and lake, 1 million square feet (93,000 square metres) of retail development, over 3 million square feet (280,000 square metres) of office development and housing for 10,000 residents. Seniors' housing in OakPark includes the Halton Region's Post Inn Village facility and the soon-to-be-completed Chartwell Classic Oakville Retirement Residence. The park, which was the subject of an international design competition, is already a centre for summer and winter activities, including impromptu hockey games and figure skating and is home to the Wellspring Halton-Peel House in support of cancer patients.
Construction has recently commenced on a transit terminal in the heart of OakPark to serve Oakville, Halton, Mississauga and Go Transit systems. In the early part of 2008, the Halton Regional Police will begin construction of a Police Station on Dundas Street in the northwest corner of the community.
